Well I’ve learned that the Siniperca obscura will take frozen krill with little or no help while the Siniperca roulei won’t take frozen krill but will take frozen rosy reds. Given the similar color of rosy reds to krill I believe it’s only a matter of time until I can get them to eat krill, the way they look at it seems like they acknowledge it might be food but are to hesitant to go for it. I will have to cut a little width off the krill for the Siniperca obscura because they struggle a good bit with an unaltered krill but can keep it down which I want to make easier on them.

Well this is odd, I was feeding tonight and I came across one of the Siniperca roulei that was skin and bones. Apparently since I had both groups of Sinipercas in the same tank I had missed the fact that this individual Siniperca roulei refused to eat shrimp or dead rosy reds while everyone else was eating just fine this individual was growing skinnier by the day. Turns out he’ll eat live zebra danios just fine so I’ll be able to get him back to a healthy weight soon enough.

Also the Siniperca obscura are greedy little pigs, one of them stole 3 pieces of food from the Siniperca roulei I was trying to feed. Look at the bulge in this one’s stomach IMG_0990.jpeg

Well well well, I left a bag of zebra danios in the tank for a minute to get their feeding response going and a Siniperca roulei managed to bite a hole in the bag! I’m enjoying these two species more and more each day.

The skinny Siniperca roulei is not faring any better and may be doing worse as it’s not just staying at the bottom and barely moving to my dismay. Nevertheless I shall keep trying to bring the little one back.

Forgot to add this but the Siniperca obscura are bolder and piggier than I thought going so far as to snatch food straight out of the Siniperca roulei’s mouthed. Separating the two species may come sooner than I thought but as long as the roulei get their food I see no reason to separate now.

Well I have unfortunate news that I had hoped would not happen. The skinny Siniperca roulei has passed away. His colors were really light yesterday which I feared was a sign towards his death and it appears I was right.

The remaining Siniperca roulei and Siniperca obscura have began to associate me along with my red tipped tongs with food so that is a good sign. They occasionally try to eat the red tip of the tongs which is slightly funny.IMG_1127.jpegIMG_1128.jpegIMG_1129.jpeg

Well today has been very pleasant to me, a good easy day at work and every single Siniperca roulei and Siniperca obscura took the shrimp and they’re smashing the feeding tong harder than ever. At this rate I might be able to have them eat out of my hand in a month. I’ve also noticed that when I walk into the room they automatically come up to the glass wherever I am and have started to associate me with food.

The only issue I’ve noticed is some of them also bite the tip of the tongs as they go for the food and when I let go slightly so they can take the food it forces their mouth open fully. It hasn’t appeared to injure any of them yet but does anyone have any ideas on this?

I’ll be taking a video of them smashing the shrimp sometime this week to post here
