Is there any cichlid that could take on a full-grown male dovii and a full-grown male umbee?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There are reasons (beyond geographical) why certain species are not found together.
In nature what ever cichlid dominates and fits into the trophic scheme of the ecosystem, and its habitat works.

In certain riverine habitats you will find a primary piscavorine predator, and omnivore and a vegetarian.
There is usually only enough space to support one of each.
Only in aquaiums do we find odd un-natural combinations, that will work temparily, until all hell breaks loose.
And most species are tailor made for their habitat.
In soft, low pH rivers of Colombia piscavore such as umbis and Cichla will be fouund,

In the hard high pH waters of Costa Rica dovii will be found, but the species above and below, will never be found together naturally.

Trying to combine such predators together, in opposite water parameters usually doen't bode well for one or the other..
In certain Panamanian rivers where I collect cichlids, one finds omnivores like Andinoacara

Vegetarians such as Isthmoheros

And Piscavorine gobies, such as Gobiomorus dormitor

and the populations of omnivores and vegetarians far exceed the populations of predatores, in balance with the available recourses.

In Central America, where water parameters are very similar across geograpical boundaries, predatory cichlids are separated be geography, such as mountain ranges, and separation of river systems creating difference in habitat
P dovii are usually found in clear, lacustrine waters,
but
P managuense are usually found in turbid riverine habitats.
P friedrichthalili are from further north in the Cenotes of Mexico
whereas P multifacsiata (loisellii) are found in the southern areas of Panama.
And its only where human intervention allows, there is combining.and the hybridization.

In island habitats, there is often only one cichlid species found
Nandopsis haitiensus in Hispanolla, Nandopsis tetracanthus in Cuba, where there is only space available for one.

tetracanthus above, haitiensus below

Although they may have originally had the same ancestor, but circomstances favored one species over the other within its habitat.

Is there any cichlid that could take on a full-grown male dovii and a full-grown male umbee?

The most aggressive freshwater fish in the world?

Monster fishes that are apex predators in the water they inhabit.

Dovii vs Mbuna

What cichlid has to worst bite?

Dovii vs Black Piranha(Ain't doing that)

Black Nasty vs Grammodes(Mini Dovii) Which one is better?

Weird Question, but any freshwater fish that can bite fingers off?

What fish are straight up killers?

What's top 5 most aggressive CA cichlids and SA cichlids?

What's top 5 most aggressive African Cichlids if size doesn't matter?

Is it normal for flowerhorn to attack to eat fish's eyes first?

That ^ is just some of the highlights of the OP's thread titles.

Sorry, duanes duanes , but your attempt to respond to this thread with a well-reasoned, scientific explanation...is much like having a team of trained psychoanalysts, fitness trainers and martial artists try to enter into and settle a schoolyard argument about "My dad can beat up your dad!" :lol3:

My understanding of this thread was as a hypothetical . I dont think there is anything necessarily "wrong" so to speak about a question such as this, but I do agree with you that all too often these kinds of posts are ragebait/trying to prove what you think to be superior because you couldnt quite find someone who wanted to argue. However, I do not think the intention was to argue, or ragebait, or any other reason besisdes "these guys know a ton about fish, and I am curious, why not ask them?".

Yup...that's what I said! :lol3:

Never heard of "ragebait"...if forced to name it, I would have thought of this stuff more as "snortbait" or maybe "eyerollbait".

Is "notthisshitagainbait" a thing?

I think that is a fair response, but if it is not your cup of tea, then simply don't respond. are you going to go to the zoo when you dont like animals, probably not. if it is not your cup of tea, move on to something else you enjoy. nothing wrong with it, and you will almost certianly find whatever else you are doing more interesting/fufilling. let the animal lovers go to the zoo and the non go somewhere else, its a win win. I mean no disrespect In this response, just trying to provide an aalternative point of view.

Lol, I'm smiling, I'm laughing, I'm getting some level of entertainment from it. Why would I not read it or respond to it? I need to read it to judge whether or not I agree and like it; why not respond? I responded not to the original question, but to a couple of the responses that had already been posted by others.

Don't forget, I'm a guy who can actually laugh at and enjoy Three Stooges short films. That doesn't mean that I would elect the Stooges to run the government (we've already done that...) or do my taxes for me or allow them to practice medicine. I place a certain level of worth on them, and enjoy them only in that context.

One can't post on a public forum...and then warn others that they shouldn't post their opinions of what is said. Are these posts all just for fun? Okay, fine...does it really matter if we are laughing with them...or at them...?

Visiting the MFK forum can be analogous to visiting the zoo; in both cases, there are things there we like, things we don't care for...and silly things from which we might get a chuckle while passing. Some threads are like the monkey exhibit; I personally don't find them interesting, but I can still laugh when they start throwing poop at the people watching them. :)

Everyone’s entitled to their opinions. That’s what makes forums interesting. He doesn’t have to read your posts and you don’t have to care about his opinion. Some are serious, others are witty, some wanna argue, while others are funny. Just do you and don’t worry about it
Thanks! 🙏

This just showed that you didn't bother reading what's inside and judged my posts by their titles only. I doubt you even read any of them before uh, doing this.

1.Is there any cichlid that could take on a full-grown male dovii and a full-grown male umbee? (I've explained this, no need for anymore explanation. I trust you wouldn't be *****in' like this if I asked 'if there any animals that could take down a full grown saltwater crocodile instead even though this is the same case.)

2.The most aggressive freshwater fish in the world? (I see no problem with this one, just asked people's opinions about what's the most aggressive freshwater fish to them. What's the harm?)

3.Monster fishes that are apex predators in the water they inhabit. (Uh, what's the problem with this one exactly? 😭)

4.Dovii vs Mbuna (Asking people about their opinion about what's usually more aggressive if size doesn't matter is wrong? 😞)

5.What cichlid has to worst bite? (Again, what's wrong with this one?)

6.Dovii vs Black Piranha(Ain't doing that) (This was just a hypothetical question cuz I saw some said Dovii would win, some said black piranha would win. So I was curious 🤔 So what's wrong with it?)

7.Black Nasty vs Grammodes(Mini Dovii) Which one is better? (I just wanted to know what do people like more in their opinion and which one suits me more. So I ended up buying both. So again, what's wrong with this one?)

8.Weird Question, but any freshwater fish that can bite fingers off? (Again for how many times already, what's wrong with this one?)

9.What fish are straight up killers? (Uh, again, what's the problem with this one?)

10.What's top 5 most aggressive CA cichlids and SA cichlids? (This is a subjective question, I just wanted to know people's opinion on the top 5 mist aggressive new world cichlids. So what's the problem?)

11.What's top 5 most aggressive African Cichlids if size doesn't matter? (Again, another 'what if' question. So what's wrong?)

12.Is it normal for flowerhorn to attack to eat fish's eyes first? (This was when my flowerhorn attacked Snakehead's eye and bit them off. That snakehead was a juvenile and was a feeder fish. So what's the problem? I just found it intriguing that it attacked the eyes first, that it knew what it was doing.)

In the end, you bothered going finding all my threads to paint me in bad light by not reading or looking into anything at all. 12 of my posts. On this site, I've complimented many knowledgeable people, members and more. They've helped me a lot, I could never thanks them enough. For all those tips and guides, and their opinions. Of course, they even wasted their time to replied to my posts.
