I was recommended by the Vietnam breeder to feed fully raw prawn to SRM flower horn for best colour and growth. However, I personally feed that pellets should be the optimal staple instead. Can check if any fellow Super Red Monkey keeper have this advice as well? To feed fully praw/shrimp and if there is any issue with this? Thank you!

He probably said that because shrimp have astaxanthin, a natural color enhancer which will make your fish look more red. Maybe so you won’t complain your Super Red Monkey is pink lol.

Shrimp is a great but I never feed my fish raw shrimp since it contains thiaminase. Cooked shrimp is safer since thiaminase breaks down in heat. If you only use it as a treat, it really doesn’t matter but if you feed raw shrimp primarily, that’s a problem. I agree with you that pellets are a way better staple

I see haha have you raised super red monkey before? But I saw online to say that pellets should have enough astaxanthin and the redness really depends on genes haha

Feeding some raw prawns occasionally can boost the red on Flowerhorn cichlid due to astaxanthin, but pellets should still be the main diet for balanced growth and nutrition.
