Frontosa stocking help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here's a thread which highlights some differences in the variants: Cyphotilapia differences. I myself have 30 Zaire Moba (and 5 Placidochromis phenochilus tanzania) in a 750gal setup 10x4x2.5. Note that if your tank is 8x3x3 then that would be 538 gallons. Good luck with your project.

That has to be an absolute gorgeous set up!! My buddy has a 560 I believe and he has his fronts for about 8 years now with a MBU actually it's a wild and gorgeous combo and they grew up together so maybe that's why there are good. But the tank is amazing

This tank is the inspiration for what I am planning species wise. I had this 125gal w 9 gibberosa Kapampa and some Mdoka white lips. The 500gal will have 12-15 F1 Zaire Gibbs, not 100% settled in variant yet as availability will determine what I get, and a group of mdokas from the fry I am raising right now from the adult group I am selling to finance the switch.

That tank is stunning!! What tank size is that in the video?

Thanks mate. It’s a standard 125gal, 72”x18”x21” 🤙🏼
I used to be a true purist in terms of what I would & wouldn’t mix. I didn’t mix lakes. D/t space constraints I began trialing different combos.
The Mdoka in that video were acting kinda rambunctious but it was a newly introduced mix of fish and there were some hierarchical disputes being settled.
I really enjoyed that scape & fish mix, hence my move back to it again in this season. The 500gal will give them a lot of extra room to move as well. I think the goal is 12-15 Zaire’s and 15 or so Mdoka. I may end up with a handful of my wife’s fav fish as well, c.moorii, the blue dolphin. We’ll see 🤷🏻‍♂️

I previously had a group of Gibberosa in my 450gal along with a few of the more mild mannered peacocks (stuartgranti sp.) and a few C. moorii. The C. moorii were a little too rambunctious which caused the Gibberosa to become visibly subdued and take a back seat. Of course your mileage may vary. Star Sapphire and Mdoka have worked really well each time I've had them with Gibberosa in 450gal and 750gal setups. I hear clown loaches are good tank mates though I've never had the opportunity to try them.

danotaylor danotaylor , who did you end up getting moba from? I’m also on the hunt. Thanks.
Hey mate! I haven’t actually got them as yet. The bloke that I found that imports from Europe is going overseas and won’t be bringing fish in again until later in October. I’ll DM you his details 🤙🏼
