Nah Eric, i'm not going to kill it intentionally, it's just going to end up dead after i'm done with it. From what i'm hearing the profile is wrong anyway, something longer and more slender may be better as bait. I have a bait shop nearby so I could go the route of large baitfish but im still trying to do this without having to rely on them every time. (plus it's free to catch them, which is always a bonus for me.) I only have caught one perch this year so I may have to figure out a better way to get them on the line if I want to go with them. And Cichlid Fiend I love lures. I fish one bait rod while I keep myself busy using crankbaits on another. I used to booger fish when I smoked, now I got to keep my hands busy. The only musky I got this year was on a crankbait, the only problem is that I fish from shore. Here it is, not very impressive, but it was pretty cool for me.

Yeah its kinda small but I never can land one. Ive had turn run ins with two monsters but I didnt land them

haha good luck man! mabey a small bluegill and a monster bobber. but good luck tell me how you make out! but even if its illegal get 1 big feeder fish and use him! haha

dude why would you want to use a feeder?...
that doesn't make any sense at all

Thats a good way to put an invasive species into our rivers and lakes. It is illegal to use goldfish AS BAIT anywhere in the US..they can easily compete for food with native carp and can destroy native habitat. Not only is it illegal but immoral as a fishkeeper to do so..:irked:

BLUE GILLS WILL WORK ALTHOUGH SOMTINHG MORE ELONGATED LIKE A PIKE ,PERCH OR SUCKER WOULD B MORE IDEAL. IF YOU WANT TO GET A MONSTER ON A LURE TR MEPPS MUSKY MARIBU OR A LARGE RAPALA

It may or may not be illegal.......Depends on where your at......I never understood the concept of putting a hook through the dorsal though.......Either go through the top lip or lips, or through the eye socket.........

Don't know why you would want it dead though? Predators like live bait.........
YOU HAVE MORE OF A CHANCE OF KILLING IT THROUGH THE EYES THAN THE BACK. IT DOESNT MATTER WHERE YOU HOOK IT IT DEPENDS ON WHAT THE BAIT IS AND HOW YOUR FISHING IT AS TO HOW TO HOOK IT. IF YOUR KILLING THE BAIT BY HOOKING IT IIN THE BACK YOUR DOING IT WRONG

If you fish it with a bobber hook it in the back. If you throw it out and let it swim freely hook it in the mouth. The bluegill shouldn't die unless a muskie hits it. You want your bait alive as possible so once it starts slowing down let it go and catch a new one. I use Gills for bass sometimes and I always let the Gill go before it dies if I don't get any strikes.

I don't usually kill anything when I hook up on the dorsal, maybe the occasional minnow when I go to far into the back and hit the spine. I'm pretty sure the hook to fish ratio would be easier to work with on a bluegill. I could probably keep him alive for some time. I may use a green sunfish, I catch them a lot and they are kind of smaller and longer than the bluegill I catch. Any ideas on hook sizes or styles? I also wonder about the distance from bobber to bluegill, I don't want that dude running my line under the structure. Im guessing 2 ft. would do fine. Dcorreia, thanks. just the info I was looking for in regards to letting it go when it slows down a bit. Like I said I would hate to leave/have a bunch of dead fish floating around my spot. I want to keep it clean.
