My take: it depends on how drastic the change is and how transparent the admins are about it. If people feel their hard-earned points can vanish overnight, it breeds distrust.
If they want the system to evolve, maybe a gradual transition or grandfathering old points would be more fair. But at the end of the day, the reward system should encourage participation, not punish longtime members.
