So one of my 8x3x3 I have my JD, Electric blue texas and GT who are all somehow best friends, maybe the large footprint helps.. along with a 7 year old scobina ray. Looking to get a cat that should scoop up left over food from the bottom. That big enough for the ray not to go after..he's been with many cat and bottom dwellers and never attacked a soul but I always like to sit on the side of caution. Any cats come to mind? Maybe some that I can get as a group or one just larger cat? Not too knowledgeable on all the catfish so just looking for suggestions

IME theres not many cats that actually sift the substrate or clean up. Look for something with a downward turned mouth like an oxydoras niger or giraffe catfish. Giraffe def. takes the cake when it comes to substrate sifting and actually cleaning up food. The O. Niger gets too big but there are a few similar smaller species of armored cats with that mouth. The giraffe can be very long lived in an 8’x3’ footprint and theres a few species there aswell. Only 1 of 3 gets 24”+ i believe. Even then, ive only seen a few beast giraffe 28” range. They will hold their own against the cichlids as well and pose no threat with their small down turned mouth.

What does the ray eat? Im surprised it doesn’t make quick work of ur substrate. They usually sift sand all day and turn it over constantly

I LOVE giraffe catfish it's actually my favorite catfish. So that may be the route ide go! I'll get one and let him do his thing! Two would be to much when they grow.

And that man is spoiled, he is talapia and shrimp only, he can give a crap about pellets anymore lmao anything else he wants nothing to do with.
