It varies from state to state. But there are some big ones the Fed's made illegal nationwide such as Asian aros. It's best to check with your states game and wildlife, they will have both the state and fed list.
 
  • Piranhas (family Serrasalmidae).
  • Freshwater Stingrays (family Potamotrygonidae).
  • Pacu (often sold as "vegetarian piranha").
  • Tilapia: All species except Tilapia zilli, T. hornorum, and T. mossambica (and those only in specific southern counties).
  • Snakeheads.
  • Walking Catfish.
  • Gar.
  • all these ones

...Most gar (Lepisosteidae) are native to the mainland US to begin with, with the exception of a handful of spp.; other than Channidae (not sure if Aenigmachannidae are legal) and Clariidae the rest are not federally-restricted taxa to import, though legality would vary by state.
Wherever you got that information is likely unreliable at best and worth not using again.
