Came back home to 180G water on the ground and scattered glass everywhere. Tank was only 2 years new, don’t know what really happened. Luckily the tank wasn’t inside the house, otherwise I’d be a dead man now.

Thank goodness that happened in the garage! Hope nothing got badly water damaged. Were you able to save any fish?

Not often that one sees a 180 made from tempered glass. Typically tempered glass is only used on the bottoms, if at all.

Not saying that torsional twist from corner to corner caused this, but an old thread that you might want to read. Sometimes it simply boils down to how the tank was manufactured, and with tempered glass, could even be random glass failure.

Below from AI Google.

  • Structural Risk (Torsional Stress): If an aquarium stand is not perfectly flat, or if one corner is higher than the others, it causes the tank to twist under its own weight, placing severe stress on the glass seams. This "torsional twist" can lead to a broken seal or a burst tank.
Tempered glass can shatter spontaneously without apparent cause due to internal nickel sulfide inclusions, edge damage, or thermal stress. These tiny, unavoidable impurities or small chips can expand over time, causing the high-tension glass to shatter into small, blunt pieces, often years after installation.
