I have a 4 inch lyonsi in a 125. The jag, black belt, bourcorti and Nics are probably pushing 2.5 inches.
I've thought about adding an amphilophus species to the tank but figured no need when I have the amphilophus lyonsi. Would the size difference be an issue if I added the lyonsi to the 210 with the current young inhabitants?

I think Central American cichlid community tanks are like a box of chocolates as you never know what you’re going to get. I won’t tell anyone how to fish tank but in my opinion you’ve got enough other tanks to sort out aggression issues. I think the only problem would be if you can remedy the situation before things go south and you wake up to dead fish. My lyonsi pair are pretty damn docile, easily the least aggressive amphilophus I’ve kept. There are 3 generations of fish currently with the parents and two spawns and some random nanolutea and cutteri.

I know some people remember nutty nutty from years ago with his The Central Scene books and articles in Amazonas but he had some incredible community tanks, well really all his tanks. This one is mainly Vieja but easily one of the best looking community tanks I’ve ever seen, dig through his channel as it’s definitely worth the watch.

The size difference could be an issue—your larger Amphilophus lyonsi may become aggressive or dominate the smaller fish in the 210 tank. Even if they’re all juveniles, cichlids grow fast and establish hierarchy quickly. It’s safer to wait until sizes are closer or be prepared to separate them if aggression starts.

He does have some great looking setups for sure.

To add details, he's in a 125 with a chuco microphthalmus, few firemouths and a vieja synspilum female. The amphilophus and vieja have been cruising the tank pretty close together and don't wish for any unnecessary breeding between the two. In that tank he's pretty mellow and doesn't chase any mates. The other 125 I have houses a parachromis multifaciatus, jack dempsey and salvini and I don't think he'll last a day in there lol

I’ve got 13 lyonsi grow outs (4-5 inches) that I’ve had to move around. At one point I had 5 of them in a 300 with 2 heterospila occura and a large pair of red tiger motos. Ones the parachromis spawned they had some ripped fins but otherwise did fine.

Now all the lyonsi are actually in my big South American planted tank with manacaparu angelfish, Denison barbs, and other small fast fish. Lyonsi just aren’t very aggressive if you can avoid placing them with parachromis I would.

The one lyonsi I have is bigger than the others that are currently in the 210. My lyonsi is 2-3 inches bigger than the others. Jag, vieja and Nics are only 2.5 inches

The point is there are too many variables, especially with different fish personalities. It’s either going to work or it’s not but there is only one way to find out.
I totally get it. Maybe I just re-home the female synspilum that he's housed with right now. Just didn't want the hybrid breeding to happen.
