Boring Fahaka

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Anyone have other ideas? He’s now in a 120 gallon and I’m going to add a big piece of wood for vertical structure. If this doesn’t improve should I swap him for another fahaka or maybe a Midas? I was really excited about a Fahaka maybe I just got one that isn’t interested in people.

A puffer is not like some of the big cichlids.

For a lot of the big cichlids they just want to defend a log all day so that is all they need.

The puffer is more of a thinking fish. It wants to interact with the environment and look for new things. Think more like building a tank for a kitten. You need to make different areas for it to explore so it has fun. I would stack rocks to make various holes big enough to swim through and use driftwood to make something elaborate for it to hunt in.

Plus the tank will look better for your eyes as well.

Tank looks much better. Perhaps adding some dither fish it won’t be able to catch would help it relax. Something like zebra or giant danios.

Also, try hand feeding it with tongs if you want it to become more interactive. Feed it live crabs, ghost shrimp, crayfish once in a while…at least to enhance its life and add interest
