Sadly a new off topic thread

When I was young, back about 1962, they claimed it would cost $168,000. My dad was making about $9000
(and I'm sure my parents never had that to spend!)

But kids generally last 70+ years .

The average lifespan of a new Ferrari, Lambo etc is only six months before some wealthy fool blows the engine or wads it up into a crumple zone deLuxe.
Hello; I imagine the $300K includes things lots of us did without growing up. I recall going to school in my fathers hand me down clothes which did not fit. few or none family vacations. Regular dental work and the like. No dispute plenty of families do not have the $300K per child even spread over 18 years.

Also children tend to cost some beyond 18 years.

Hello; The link describes a fatal attack on a six-year-old child. Seems a neighbor agreed to baby sit the child for a few days. She had three dogs for protection. Two of which attacked the child and mauled him for twenty minutes. The dog's owner was present and even had a gun but failed to take the shot. The details are grizzly.

I have a couple of questions. No mention of what came of the two dogs. Appears even when the child was clearly going to die the dog owner did not take a shot. maybe not even after the attack was over???

Why did the woman agree to have a child on her place. Reads as if she clearly knew the risk. Seems she was in the process of putting the dogs in a kennel when the boy came out of the house before that job was done.
I Had a neighbor with three kids a few years ago. He ran his wife off. Wanted me to watch the kids. I said no using that I have guns as an excuse. I knew such would become a regular thing and did not want to be liable. Did not trust him after the way he set up the wife.

Point being why not be the neighbor who simply says no. The woman got two years for the attack.

Hello; A very strange thing happned in my area. Not real close but high school teams play each other. I do not understand this one. Seems a woman who had lived in a place since birth was found dead on a road she walks often. The story appears to be a neighborhood German Shepard she was familiar with may have attacked her.
The dog was known by her and other neighbors. Had walked along with her before. Was not reported to be aggressive. As is common in the area lots of folks let their dogs run loose. Too many unknowns. The assumption is the dog did the attack, but I do not know the basis for that conclusion. I plan to follow this which should be easy enough as the story broke on an area TV news station.
That the dog was present is not good evidence to me. Maybe there is more to it.
EDIT- I somehow missed the part about a video of the event.

Hello; For the last 40 years there was a shop (McKay's) in Knoxville TN. They sold/traded used CD's, vinyl, books, DVD's, electronics and more. Over the decades I have bought CD's from them. I have bought somewhere north of 1200 factory CD's, many from that store. This past weekend they shut down the store in Knoxville.
I want to find a way to get old music CD's and some books. Books will be easiest as there are libraries. CD's not so much, maybe not at all unless they come back the way vinyl has.

To my question. I have heard of ways to get music online. I ignored such before as I prefer to own a physical version of the music.
My brother has an Amazon Prime subscription and told me about that. I do not want to sign up for that. He also had an Apple subscription of some sort in the past but the description is similar. This next part will tell the tale on me.

I do not mind paying for the music but will not use a credit card online. i do not use a credit card online at all. I hope to never be forced to do so. I have sometimes bought from Walmart's online store because i can use a Walmart gift card to pay. I hope to find either a way to buy music without a credit card or using a bank account.

I have heard of "free" online music but know little about such. If such actually exist can I somehow download music to me computer nd later burn the music onto blank CDs to listen to in my car with a CD player?
I know newer cars no longer have CD's. I burn/download some sample music onto thumb drives for when I go to look at a new car. Turns out not all car makes will play the WMA format. Some only will play Mp3. So the 1200 plus CD's ripped into my computer can be used in a new car with thumb drives.

Thanks for any help.
