Hey guys, I know I’m new to African tiger fish as I just got my first one but I had one of my 125 tanks crack on me this week and I had to move a lot of my fish for my 125 to a couple of my other tanks. And when I mean crack, I mean a giant split from the top of the tank to the bottom corner. And in there along with a couple other fish, were my two Tarpon, my Atlantic tarpon that I was growing out and my indo Pacific Tarpon. The end of pacific is around 5 inches in the Atlantic is around 6 inches long. Right now they’re in a 55 gallon tank that they were in when I first got them and it’s not wide enough for them and it’s heavily planted so they are bumping into the walls when spooked because they don’t have that much with to go back into. Now eventually I’m going to get another 125 and put them back in there but do you think it would be safe to put them with my 4 inch African tiger fish in his 60 gallon or do you think they’ll be fine in the 55 until I can get them in another 125? It’s not like they’re not eating. They’re in fact eating very well. It’s just that I’ve noticed they’re losing a few scales here and there I’m assuming it’s due to bumping into stuff. Thank you for any help and or support.

Is a 55 much different in size than a 60?

At that size, I don’t think there’d be much of a problem putting them together. I haven’t had one personally but all the tigerfish I’ve seen on here seem to do well with similar sized fish. That said, the risk does still exist so you may be better off keeping them separate.
The Tarpon will be fine in the 55 for now (unless they grow substantially in the next few weeks). Keep the lights dim and/or add floating plants to help them feel more secure and it should work out.
Have you noticed if the tarpon are fighting at all - just thinking of other ways they could be losing scales.

The only real difference is that the 55 is taller and not as wide as the 60. The tarpon have never fought, at least not that I have seen and the other fish that are in that tank aren’t that aggressive either. There are plants in the 55 although I am thinking of removing them and replacing them because they got taken over by green algae and duckweed. I’ll probably just keep them separate for now.
