Anyone Keep Ornate Pims?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
DBJ: Its rare to find catfish that are active- I wish I could find more.......
TBTB: There is this too-common-hence-unappreciated fish called iridescent shark catfish...
What about black ear sharks? I think they look better, but not sure about their max size... feel like I read 4' but ive never seen one so big

Ornate Pims for $20? Pretty sure that's a mistake. Pretty sure I got mine from Rapps. Thought they were like $60 ea.

Tigs are kinda purdy but I'd be worried about the fish it would have to be housed with when larger here......

Vulture cats and rays seem to be hit and miss. I'm not interested in anything that is going to chew on rays and Rapps reported this happening to him so no Vultures for this guy. Irridescents would be on that same list..... Not gonna happen.

I imagine an Ornate would become a meal for any properly sized rays, I know even my Marbles would eventually chew up Pictus cats. That's why ray keepers have grow out tanks, so they can have fish with their smaller rays.... lol

Seasons differ. Availability varies. My record says I bought 2 of Rapps' Pimelodus ornatus at 3" at $25 a fish. This was July-Aug 2016.

Your school of 5 is great. I always wanted a larger one but $$ was tight.

I'd not worry about vultures and rays a priori. But I respect Jeff's experience.

They do grow bigger (we seem to not know by how much in captivity) but more importantly they are more predatory. Same genus as Paroon.
