another thing you could try is cod I did this for a week and I have never seen my bichirs go as crazy as they did for this. Even the ones that normally wouldn't come out if the lights were on decided that cod was worth it. However it is VERY messy and oily so this should not be a regular food but might jump start him eating
Hah that's interesting, most fish usually won't touch cod, to the point that we have a Norwegian saying; The cod eats everyone, but no one eats the cod. The only fish that'll bite is the wolf fish. Saltwater one.

Well since you were traumatized by the tilapia issue you could try catfish. Also very messy but most polys love it, natural food source for them. Yummmmm synodontis. This could also work toward a sort of healing for you.....:D

Nice cb lab. Give it some time maybe treat for internal parasites as a precaution. I like tetra parasite gaurd.

Cb genetics play a part. Some cb endli will have a longer upper jaw than lower jaw but still an endli

All I know is that no amount of captive breeding or inbreeding can make one species take on nearly all the characteristics of another. That being said we are judging from pictures alone, so it would be hard for anyone to make an exact verdict. I'm still fairly certain that it's a Delhezi x Ornatipinnis hybrid.

I suppose that the only way to know for certain in this situation, aside from DNA sequencing, would be to look closely if it has a groove running along its lateral line. If it does then it's a lower jawed species, if it doesn't then it's not. Should be relatively easy to spot in person, by getting the right angle in regards to the light.

Also if it doesn't grow much more then it's probably not a lower jaw species.

Went on an Indonesia site and browsed a few of their CB type laps. Farms there are known to produce a compact messy like patterns as Dragon2 piece. Here are a few examples. Headshape known to possess many forms and some have bug eye and some don't.

I can see it as Hao said even with that faint pattern it could be. I like the fact it's face isn't typical lj. That is one of the reasons I don't like lj is the frog like appearance they usually have. To bad you had to get him in such a bad state. I think he will be great once you get him healthy regardless of what kind of poly he is!

Besides the upper jaw which i think when dealing with cb should not be used as the sole means of identification.

Vertical lines found in lap types

Thicker banding towards the tail. Found in lap types.

Pattern on top of the head also found in lap types.

Plus to me those finlets are tall and could possibly be 14 since we have a couple missing.
