Well maybe not quite that long. I'm not current with the latest trends in lighting.I have always used the basic flourescent bulbs and have rarely had to change them.If 20 years then definitely needs replacement!

One end of the bulb has a greyish ring around it....a replacement is two days away.besides the above. starter will be a prob on start up. when you turn it on, but the ballast is in there also so replace it, check the bulb for graying/blacking at the end, sign on a cooked/done bulb. and clean the contacts.
