    sheepshead..... in a freshwater pond?

We do get sheepshead (and mullet and snook and ....) in the springs here in Florida, so yes having them in fresh water is possible. I don't know if any of the population stays in freshwater and breeds or if they are only migrating during the colder weather times (springs here are 72 all year).

    Death to the amphibians

Wire mesh cover? Should let insects in, but be small enough to keep frogs/toads out. Not sure if they'll drop 'em from air into water as opposed to getting in the water and laying them...

    New/First native setup

Unless the guys at work are lawyers and you've paid for their opinion, do the research yourself. Often times there are exceptions to what is considered the rule... ie, store bought, etc. But really depends on what state you are in.

pond conversion - quarter million gallons

Build a smaller pond closer to the house. Bury a stock tank and build up around the sides with sandbags or garden timbers, line it, add a small(er) pump, perhaps solar powered? For viewing, build a waterproof enclosure for a wireless webcam - just make sure the antenna comes out with the power...

Most NA natives will chow down on the tadpoles... thing is, you mention "tub" - how big?

Microfishing! When your goal and thought process of fishing is all backwards!

Have used light wire long shank 18 and 20 hooks to catch gambusia. The line gets to be a problem - even 2lb test mono floats.

    minimalist fishing gear

In my pond recovers thread it was mentioned that I was brave for always having fishing gear with me - one poster lost $2500 worth of gear in a car theft. I dont want to stir the pot too badly but it could easily devolve into a discussion on fishing equipment costs. So let's have one! So what...

    a pond recovers

I don't think I've ever spent more than $20 on a rod, and my tackle collection is usually just terminal gear and some basic lures - beetle spins, smaller spinner baits, 4" and 6" worms... I could probably set myself back up for freshwater fishing for under $50. Another $50 for saltwater pier...

    a pond recovers

Extreme heat (N Central Florida) with minimal water movement, screw up the oxygen levels and such, and then the water column can actually flip, taking the cooler water at the bottom , sending it to the top, and it acts as a big temperature shock... Between the rapid temp change, the lack of O2...

    a pond recovers

There is a pond in town (has some local history associated with the local university dating back to the early 1900s), I started riding my bike there and fishing when I was 4. My parents bought a house on it when I was 6, my mother still lives there. When full to the rim, it is about 4 acres. and...

need to make a top/light holder

Weird size tank... current top is multiple pieces (15+ years old...) and has crappy single tube lighting. No where near enough for plants and such. I'd like a new hood/top - but due to the weird size, it isn't really available easily/cheaply. Thinking I can take a piece of plywood, cut to...

    3x2x3

The spawn of the year in my fishing hole are 2-3" now and last years spawn are 6-8" now. A 2 year old fish is 12" or larger. Mind my experience is with small ponds - a few hundred square feet up to a couple of acres.

    Native fish comparisons

Not sure if due to hybridization or water conditions but various ponds around me show big differences in coloration of what appear to be the same species

    ~45 gallons, what to do?

Title sorta says it all. Have a tank about 45 gallons (weird size I know) and after many years of a dwindling African cichlid population in it, it is now empty except a few corys and a single giant danio. Tank is not currently correctly lighted for plants, but I have the materials to fix that...
