If you're not cleaning your canister filter often and it is working for you, you should probably consider replacing it with a powerhead. Effectively all the canisters doing for you with circulating the water.

20 is perfect. It means your tank is in balance. Les than that, and your plants get unhealthy, more than that and your fish do.
