Getting back into the hobby, suggestions?

Yeah if I’m going with the Cubans they’d be the only fish in there. It’s a tough choice, the average Cuban may not be as personable as the average Labiatus but there’s just something about watching a pair of cichlids raise their fry, it’s extraordinary. Thanks for the input Duanes!

Getting back into the hobby, suggestions?

Granted, I’ve come down to 2 options, I can either get a male Labiatus for my 125 or go with a pair of Cubans in there. If anyone thinks a Cuban pair would be cramped in there lmk, I want the fish to be happy and healthy first of all. For the 90, it comes down to the pair of Cons or a pair of...

Getting back into the hobby, suggestions?

Well, personal stuff came up again so I didn’t get a chance to really put time back into the hobby again. All I’ve got in both tanks are just some Tiger barbs lol, don’t even feed the guys that much (perhaps like once every 2 days) they just feast on the algae. Hopefully I’m back for good but I...

    Jaquar cichlid sex?

It looks to be a Jaguar it seems very stressed, hence the faded coloration, can’t really tell sex.

    Prettiest parachromis you've ever seen

Wow he’s stunning! Up there with Motas as the prettiest in the family to me!

    Black Nasty

Idk if it’s just me but I think they look nothing like Jaguars lol

Getting back into the hobby, suggestions?

I appreciate the detailed response! Yeah honestly I agree on your opinion about how they look shape wise, they have that ideal mix of being bulky but not too bulky. And the coloring on them all, it’s insanee. I’ll definitely look into those!

Getting back into the hobby, suggestions?

I think that would be asking for a war haha. Younger inexperienced me being dumb and making mistakes, would have dumped 3-4 different species in that 125 but I’m way past that stage. I’ll stick to species only tanks or wet pets haha. Having owned both separately, although I sold the Labiatus...

    Black Nasty

    Look closer to Cubans imo

Getting back into the hobby, suggestions?

Thanks! Interesting, conflicting suggestions. I do know that many have kept a single Red devil or other similarly sized cichlids (in the 8-14 inch range) in a 90 gallon, they’d have to be on top of their water changes for sure. I’d preferably want the fish to be comfortable and not cramped...

Getting back into the hobby, suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestions! Now that I think about it you’re right, it may be a bit too cramped for a Male Jag or a male Butti in the 125, although it would be suitable for their first couple years. I’ll probably just go with the Labiatus in the 125 then, and a convict pair with a bunch of...

    What species is this?

Some type of Hybrid, could be part flowerhorn. At first glance I nearly thought it was a Beani lol

    Con Solo the Convict

He’s a beauty! One of the best males I’ve seen on here, great job.

Getting back into the hobby, suggestions?

Hey all, it’s been a while! After my Butti died, I got pretty demotivated and went out of the hobby for a bit, now I’m back. I’ve freed up both my 125g and my 90g so now I’m looking for suggestions! Although I’ve got a couple ideas in mind. 125 GALLON OPTIONS: 1. Convict “community”+...

    Heterotilapia buettikoferi biting everything

Yeah it’s gonna kill anything that moves. Some of the smartest most personable fish you’d ever own though and like Duanes said they need big tanks. Females have no problem getting to 10-12 inches and males get much larger.

Honduran jaguar group - parachromis managuensis

looking forward to seeing them grow. Just something about Jaguars that always has me in awe. Their streamlined body, coloring and spotting/spangling are out of this world.

    Most Aggressive cichlids Top 15

Personally, out of all the fish I’ve owned my female Buttikoferi was by far the most aggressive fish, my male Jaguar pales in comparison.

What is your favorite? South American, or Central?

Yeah, the most intelligent and arguably the most personable fish I ever owned.
  20. Cichlids-r-beasts

What is your favorite? South American, or Central?

SAs- Festae and Umbees CAs- love the parachromis family, mainly Jags and RTMs. The Amphilophus family is great too, my favorites would be Labiatus, Trimacs and Chanchos. Istlanum and Beani are amazing also. You don’t see much big male Istlanum around. All time favorite fish tho isn’t from SA or...
