After picking up 6 Rio Niltepec trimac juveniles a while back in an attempt to end up with a pair failed, due to all of the surviving group being male, I decided to try my hand at a group of Honduran jaguars. I just bought a group of 8 from Dan at COA. 8 better be enough to end up with a pair this time around!

I took these with my phone right out of the bag, but you can see the amount of blue in their fins even at this smaller size. I’m excited to see what they look like as adults. I’ll update this thread periodically with pics. They’re pretty skittish now, although they did stay out while I fed the tank this morning. Hoping that begins to be the norm sooner rather than later.

Please excuse the glass as I had just put these guys in and didn’t want to scare them further by cleaning it up right then. The trimacs were very determined to splash the entire 125 gallons onto the floor when I got them out earlier.

Yes indeed they look amazing with all that blue. Getting a pair to form with any aggressive cichlids can be just tough sometimes. Hoping this goes better for you then the trimacs. Best of luck RampageRR. Keep the updates coming as these beauties grow out.

Thanks, all! Right after posting these pics, they went into super shy mode for about a week to 10 days, hiding behind all the driftwood and only coming out to eat after I left the room entirely. They've since come out of their shell and now stay out when I walk by, happily eating all the food they can get. No aggression or torn fins yet which I'm sure will change fairly soon as they get a little larger.

looking forward to seeing them grow. Just something about Jaguars that always has me in awe. Their streamlined body, coloring and spotting/spangling are out of this world.
