What counts is the flowrate. With a 1" pipe I would guess that it takes up to 400-450 gallons/hour.

I always use the heat-treatment. The Ich-parasites die in temperatures above 32c. Thats about 89-90 fahrenheit. You have to keep the temperature above that for 5 to 7 days to be sure. Keep in mind to do this only with fish that can take this temperatures. I never use salt to my freswater...

Not really. Sometimes they showel away some sand to get room under the driftwood. I have fine sand in the tank. Planetcatfish says max 28 cm for the ornatus, so i guess they get a little bit bigger.

I have 4 Pimelodus blochi that are about 20 cm (7,8 inches?) And they are definitely adult fish, many years old. They are quite peaceful too. I dont think they get any bigger. Planetcatfish also says max 25 cm.
