    2x4 Fish Room Racks

Since you shared that tip about offsetting horizontal supports on the same vertical support. Going to go that route with 2x4 and just stick to two tanks high on the taller tanks, and go three high on the 12" tanks. I never would have thought of doing that. Appreciate the help.

    2x4 Fish Room Racks

@fishdance thanks, great ideas. the space issue sucks, but I have not had much luck with local welders. Wish there was a bolt together metal solution. Three levels of wood racks have 10.5” of wasted space. Trying my best to keep things easy to view and work on. I like watching the fish.

    2x4 Fish Room Racks

Sketch clears it up. Thank you. Thats very clever. Im going to face the smaller tanks end out, but I want all of the 40’s viewable. I think the 17” height of the 40 breeders make them too tall to stack three high…I have been playing with sketches and laying it out on the wall with painters...

    2x4 Fish Room Racks

Do you have pictures? I cant envision what you are describing about not doubling up vertical supports if sitting two racks side by side. im on the fence on doing 2 high. Im trying to come up with a 3 tier design I can live with (far enough off floor to see, and not too high). If I do a 3 tier...

    2x4 Fish Room Racks

Thank you. The other rack will have three tiers, (9) 20 longs and (3) 33 longs. And then finally, a rack of (4) 125's. I'm thinking the 125's is where I may get into trouble and need to double up the vertical supports and use 2x6 for the 6' span. I'm pricing out having metal stands made for...

    2x4 Fish Room Racks

Yes, five across the front. Did I add wrong...two supports will be on each end, and then a support between each tank. Your 154' is probably right, my number came to 151.5", but thats not counting the trim. That whole wall is 15'10" so I still have some room, but doubt I can squeeze in another 40...

    2x4 Fish Room Racks

Hello, I'm planning on making large 12' and 15' racks versus several smaller 3' or 4' racks for my fish room. Making one large rack removes the extra vertical supports and ends up saving a decent amount of room. It ends up being the difference between having plenty of walkway space versus...

    Pseudetroplus [formerly Etroplus] maculatus 'Gold'

Neat fish, I have always wanted to try these based on Jim Cummings experience with them. I agree that it would be super interesting to see if you could get wild types by crossing the orange with a wild fish.

One more question. Is there a general rule of thumb for what ambient room temp will keep the tanks at a certain temp? I plan to cover the tanks to reduce evaporation and the cooling effect that comes from that.

That does not sound too bad. We don't get freezing weather very often.

Yeah, I don't understand why its a big deal either. I can see the garage portion of the building because of heavy rain, wet vehicles etc, you would want that to run out. I guess I need to hammer home the point I just need the drain hole. He had no idea what I was talking about when I tried to...

I may go this route if the floor drain continues to be a problem. I can't specify where the floor drain goes because they want it in the center of the room so that the whole room will slope towards that drain. So if the floor drain lands in an area that does not make sense, I won't be able to...

The contractor and I are still talking about floor drains. The issue seems to be that the concrete needs to slope towards the 18' garage door so water will run out. But when we add drains, the floor needs to slope towards the individual drains. I'm going to talk to him a bit more and see if we...

The drains will go out to a greywater only leach field. I think that is the term. There will not be any waste going into the drain. The mud sink will only be used for washing hands/cleaning dirty stuff. (No sewage or chemicals) I am fairly sure this is common in my area. I know of a couple of...

Thanks for the input. Mold is not something I want to deal with. I'm not completely against leaving the floor plain cement. A couple of questions: 1) As far as floor drains. How do I go about placing those? If I put in a floor drain, the standard is to slope the floor towards the drain...

Expoxy would be pretty sweet. I do walk around barefoot a lot. I'll jot this down on the list as well. Vinyl would be cheaper and not too bad to install.

Any ideas on flooring? Would you leave cement or try to do some type of water proof flooring?
