New Oscar Laying At Bottom Of Tank

Unfortunatly Sarah, our tap water has Nitrates of 25. Maybe I shouldn't have an Oscar in the future. Though I have successfully kept Discus in this water. Scooby, I have around 10x water turn over in my tank too. That's fine. The LFS tank was literally like a whirlpool - the Oscars were...

New Oscar Laying At Bottom Of Tank

Yeah, the tank is perfectly fine - it has been running for just over 18months. The water parameters are 0.0 Ammonia, 0.0 Nitrite and around 35 Nitrate. A few of the Oscars in the shop were laying at the bottom on occasion. Then they would get up and move again. A whole bunch of them had...

New Oscar Laying At Bottom Of Tank

I found the Oscar dead at the bottom of the tank today. Went back to the shop, and noticed the tank I brought him from has a high power internal filter. There were about 16 1.5inch Oscars in a 30ltr tank, and the water was being moved so fast that the little guys where being blown all over the...

New Oscar Laying At Bottom Of Tank

I recently added an oscar into my tank. He is about 2 inches long at the moment. He seems to spend a lot of his time laying on the bottom of the tank, or in a corner behind bogwood. Then every so often he swims around the tank for a while before going back to his corner. He is eating and...

What are the most important factors for 'overstocking'?

Talk of overstocking comes up quite often here. Some people are ok with it, and others are not. I think both sides of the discussion have a lot of fair points. However, leaving all that aside for a moment, I'd like to get some opinions on what people feel are the most vital factors to...

    Fluval 305 vs Fluval 405

Well I will try and get rid of the air. If that doesn't work, I will swap the impeller and see if that makes any difference. Any other suggestions?

    Fluval 305 vs Fluval 405

Thanks. There does seem to be quite a bit of air stuck inside it - when I move the filter some comes out. What's the best way to ensure I have a good prime on the filter?

    Fluval 305 vs Fluval 405

I just added a Fluval 405 to my existing setup and I am finding it very noisy. I already have a Fluval 305 which is actually pretty quiet. Should there be that much noise difference between these two filters?

    Community Tank

What size is that severum? I have 2 just like it - they are both approx 10". You got some lovely fish in there. I would like to stock my 50g in a similar way (minus the arow) - but am worried I would be pushing it a little. Any suggestions?

Adding a Blood Parrot - a good idea?

Thanks for all the replies and information, it is appreciated. I understand the concerns and frustration some people feel - even still the information provided it helpful. Just a note regarding the discus, he came from a tank of 6 other discus, and he was a relentless bully. No idea why, but...

Adding a Blood Parrot - a good idea?

I've seen a lovely Blood Parrot Cichlid that I want to add to my tank - however I am a little hesitant...so am seeking advice. I currently have 2 9" Severum and a 6" Discus, as well as a few smaller fish (Bristlenose Pleco, 5 Cories etc.) - Now some may say it's a risk having Severum and Discus...

So I went to the camera store this weekend...

Ok thanks :) My main issue has been getting photos with too much noise. I will try placing more lights and see what happens... :)

So I went to the camera store this weekend...

That's a real nice photo. Was it taken with a Canon 450D? What settings did you use? I still have trouble with getting quality fish photos with my Canon. I usually photograph fish using Aperture Priority with an ISO of 1600 and no flash.
