Drill a 1/16" hole in your return line going into tank. Make it just below the water level in the tank.When the power goes out , the siphon is broken . The only water to go in the sump is from the overflow lines. Ive had mine setup this way for 8 yrs and havent had any problems with it...

I have a Little Giant on my 180. Its been running for 8 years with no problems. Just made a small wet/dry for a friend and am using a 500 submersible in it.

A good rule of thumb is to "Turn the tank over" 3 to 5 times an hour. You would be good with @1100 or so gph. Ive got a 180 and am running @1150 an hour.

I would just run a nice size wet/dry on it. Once its up and running, all you have to do is clean it. With the HOB filters you have to shut them off to clean them. Wet/dry just pull out trays and rinse off, clean prefilters. Its just a personal preferance as to what kind of filters to use...
