08TRDOFFROAD's 45 Gallon Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For now, I put a ball valve on the drain line to slow the flow a bit, that has cut down on the bubbles to the point I don't notice them, but I think a filter sock (based on input I received on another forum) is a longer term solution as I don't really like having to restrict flow on the drain to solve the problem.

I also need a poor mans top off system in a hurry. I go out of town for three days on Friday and I don't have a clue how I am going to keep the tank full while I am gone!

As you can see from my last FTS, my tank is quite cloudy. I originally chalked it up to the fact that my RO unit needed some attention. Well, I completely replaced everything in my RO unit and I am still having cloudy "green" water... What am I doing wrong??? What can I do to get this water as clear as I know it can be??? The cloudiness on top of the microbubble issues is what has me so near to calling it quits...

jbj top system is pretty cheap. im using a zunze ato and i love it. right now on my 125 im using about 1gal a day but i dont have the lights on yet. bulk reef supply has some cheap diy top off systems. u can use an aqualift pump.

Don't both of those require the use of a pump and a reservoir....?

I am hoping to find something like the level loc system with double redundancy that I can just drill a "small" hole in the wall to run the 1/4" tubing through directly from my RO unit, as I don't really have the space for a significant sized reservoir near the tank...

Hooking it up directly to your RO unit is an interesting concept. I am sure that it has been done...just need to somehow hook the ATO sensor up to the water supply to your RO unit.

The level loc is an awesome set up...it is just unavailable right now due the company filing bankruptcy and restructuring...

It has the standard float valve that controls water flow, however in the event the float valve fails, there is a float switch that when triggered will send a signal to a solenoid which will cut all water flow to the system, which could be plugged into a timer for another level of redundancy...it would be triple redundant which reduces the risk of a direct hook up to the RO unit drastically, the chance of a flood due to malfuction is slim to none....all three features woud have to fail simultaneously.

Here is a short video of it.

Thanks, it isn't the happiest right now...It hasn't looked like the first pictures I posted for a few months now...still trying to figure out what is going on with the tank to cause it... But just an observation, it seems like the xenia's PE decreased drastically when my Toadstool perked up...maybe have some form of chemical warfare going on. I am now running carbon to help rule out that possibility.

Good idea...sometimes xenia will just slump though as well.

No worries, its tough stuff I bet it will recover soon enough.
