So I'm contemplating on which direction I want to go and I was wondering what the MFK community has in mind...

At the moment I have 2 wet pet setups, 1 - 75 gallon with a Barred Midas and a 55 grow out tank with a SRD FH. I'm contemplating on getting a 3rd tank but I wasn't sure if I should just go with another wet-pet setup... probably another 75 or a 90 gallon tank with a Red/White Midas "OR" if I should go the 180 gallon route and make an attempt to have a community of large monsters... the Barred Midas and FH being 2 of them.

Granted, I understand that the 2 of those guys might not co-exist... but I have backup tanks in case it doesn't work between the two of them.

Thoughts?

Try it! Like you said, you can always split em up if need be. And then you have to figure out what to do with your 180! What a problem to have!

If you have the room and money for it, always go bigger. Just remember how much of a pain it will be to move, set up, take down, etc. if you're willing to go through that for the sake of having a bigger tank then go for it.

I think this might start shifting to a stock suggestion thread... "Suppose" that the Midas and FH can co-exist in the 180... What else could I put in there? If the cant co exist... I'll keep the Midas in there and what tank mates would you suggest?

Off the top of my head... I'm thinking,

Hoga
SRD FH
Festea
Amphilophus Citrinellus
Jag
JD

To keep the aggression down I would probably overstock a little...

Thoughts?

It's probably going to take a little trial and error, as every fish is different, honestly. That said, I'd have to say that is an awful lot of "angry" packed together, even for a 180. Nonetheless, man... stranger things have happened. If you get them all smallish and at the same time, you probably improve your chances... but my gut says that mix is more likely to ultimately not work.

Good luck with whatever you choose though!

My first instincts would be to say this won't work long term as well. Then again every fish is different, and your odds will certainly increase if they're all raised from the smallest size possible, together. It's almost 100% certain you'll require some subtraction/substitution in stock though!
