1/2 inch overflow problems

Your inlet needs to be higher than the T section, preferably just below water level, if not in a power cut the tank will empty to the pipe inlet level. this will get the flow going.
 
Ok, I thought the inlet was the problem, the inlet was cut to the desired water level, I usually have it much lower, I just didn't have a pump putting water back in the tank, so I put more water in the tank than I usually do. I've already cut more pvc pipe, I'll be making a new one in a few hours
 
Success! worked like a charm, but I think you guys are right, 1/2 inch pipe does not make enough water flow, even for the low flow I'm looking for. probably gonna go out and make one out of 3/4 piping.
