1/4" glass on a 150 gallon?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if anything its 3/8 but it could be half. my 106 is half inch glass with my 50gal being 3/8
i believe the 29's are 1/4 glass.

If its truly 1/4 or even 3/8 i wouldnt trust it. that is a LOT of water to come spilling out destroying everything around it

I just measured the glass on my 150 and its 1/2 inch. If that tank is less then that it could be a reptile tank and if that's the case it was not made nor ment to hold water.

My newer 165 which is 6'x2'x20"H is only 5/16" glass. The braces keep it from bowing. If it bows more than slightly when filled, it is too thin. I highly doubt the tank would just explode when filled if the glass isn't thick enough. If the glass is too thin, it means that the seals would break much faster and you would get a leak much quicker.

Just to reiterate by repeating myself. The gallons do not matter the depth of the water and side length is what matters. If the previously mentioned 18" is the depth of the water 3/8" would be fine on a 6' framed or braced tank.

Imaginary situation, to illustrate.. 5000 gallons of water 1" deep has very little bottom pressure and could be contained by very thin glass. 5 gallons of water 4' deep has a lot of bottom pressure and would need glass 3/4' or more to hold the pressure.
