Sorry it I missed it, but did you compact the (clay?) walls? Why not just render the sides? Maybe tile it?
Also, how costly is electricity down there? Power is the killer here, so every decision is all about long-term efficiency. I'd honestly considering going solar, but it's a >US $8Grand initial outlay.

i have a genarater (i think thats how you spell it) for it and electricity is not that hard to manage were i live and i dont have money to tile its like 12$per tile and thats 2USD for ech tile and its a 8x8x3 and im only 12 so yah
