Topic says it all. Have the opportunity to buy 2 - 4x2x3 glass enclosures that was originally intended to be a display case...for $50 for both.

Normally there is no way I could afford a tank that size. Looking to build my own filter and stand if its a go.

Agreed. There's no way I'd risk 1/4" glass with a tank that big and especially that tall. I believe 30 gal tanks are made with 1/4" glass if that gives you any idea. The taller the tank the thicker the glass needs to be.

I just thought perhaps there was a chance seeing as it was tempered glass. :\

Oh wait... How is glass laminated? Could I cut apart the two enclosures and laminate the panels and make one tank from them?

I thought that tempered glass is actually more unstable when its under load, such as a full aquarium. Where normal glass might just chip or crack if hit under load, tempered explodes.

Yeah...its quickly looking like i won't be moving forward with this.

Those display cases make sweet reptile cages though. And 50 bucks for a big one is a great price.

Well you could the only problem with the dimensions is the height and you cannot cut tempered glass say maybe measure an 18'' mark on the tank and only fill it up to there.

But like posted above being tempered may be more of a risk factor.
