What are you, the official MFK "sack" Inspector?

yo aquatahoic, you shoul not feed ur aro til that sack is gone. i hear if you feed it, it doesn't use that sac like it should then it ends up causing a bacteria infection out of that sac which leads to death... u shouldn't even feed til that sac is gone.

i went to one of my lfs, and saw a 10gal tank with 4 aro's in it. 2 were half dead, 1 was stuck to the overflow bulkhead, and 1 was prestine. i couldn't stand to see a baby of this size go to waste with the other 3 so i had to grab it. i've cared for aro's for a good amount of years n have some big boys myself, but never had one this small. anyone ever have any problems with aro's this tiny? i can't believe how small it is. the lfs said they had it eating mini krickets but i can't be going to the lfs every day jus for this 1 species. so my question is:

anyone ever get there micro silvers on pellets this young? or blood worms? cut up market shrimp? whats your suggestion on what to feed this lil guy. thanks

you got a good heart.:) You can try housing them in a tank with much lower water level for silvers love swimming on the top level of the tank. by lowering the water level, those bloodworms you fed to them which sink to the bottom are easily fetched later by them. So the chance of surivial is higher.:)

Try not to alter the water parameter (including the temperature) too much during water change for small aro tends to be more sensitive to changes in the water parameter and may lead to death in some case. The reason why I'm saying this is because when you lower the water level, it mean that the amount of water in the tank is cutted to the bare minimum. And lesser water will not stay "fresh" for long.

Good luck with your upkeeping of these little monsters.:)

Awww, good luck. I did the same thing, rescued one that size a few mos. ago. He did great then I suddenly lost him, but if you have full size pellets, break them small and pre soak in water for 5 mins so it's easy to get it down. I found the tinyiest pellets I've ever seen, like the size of about 3 poppy seeds. Same ingredients as regular Hikari Carnivore Floating Aro pellets. Look in the pet store the bag says "Hikari Cichlid, Cichlid Gold, floating type BABY PELLET", you can see them thru a clear spot in the front of the bag. I was struggling along with mine, he wanted to eat, it was just difficult, these pellets were perfect, he went crazy because he could eat them, he grew almost an inch before I lost him. Be careful with anything you feed him, I would worry about crickets, feeders or anything that could get stuck or cause an obstruction, look how incredibly tiny he is. Good Luck, if you can't find those pellets I can mail you some and you'd have them in a few days. Good luck. I loved my little dude so much, it really broke my heart but I know he had the best short life he could have!

The bag is Red and Gold

thanks meiling, but i went to my lfs n purchased the same pellets you speak of and he loves them. no pre-soak needed. i jus threw them in and he devoured them. he's way fatter now then he's in my possession and so far doing great. im jus worried my motoro or rtc might try to eat him cuz my motoro is like 8" disc and the rtc is about 2" now but he's been okay since i put him in. hopefully all stays well. thanks for the advice n suggestions everyone... here's a lil pic of the lil guy.
