2 PART QUIZ:
The first fish pictured was purchased with intention of it fitting in with my all male cichlid tank.
Well, she has spawned three times since she has gotten big enough to breed.:shakehead
QUESTION 1: What is she? I do not know. :irked:
QUESTION 2: Who is the daddy? I think that these are the only fish that could possibly cross-breed with her that are in the tank:
Electric ahli, peacock 1 or 2, or kenyi
The larger fry are from spawn #1 and the rust colored little one is from spawn #2. #3 became fish food.
WHAT A TRAMP! :y220d:

Any ideas?

She looks like a female C. borleyi, and I would think she would be spawning with either of the two red/orange coloured peacock males.

There is a mbuna behind the ahli in the picture. How many do you have? That type of mbuna would produce offspring of the color of the little brown guy.

It is a zebra of some flavor.
I have 20 fish in that tank, but I was under the impression that cross breeding could only happen with fish who are at least close enough to be able to. (mbuna/hap/peacock)

So, my first premise, that the female in question is not a mbuna, may be wrong? Therefore I did not include fish known MBUNA's in the "suspect line-up." Do you suspect that she is a mbuna of some kind? Would like your feed back. I am too new at this breeding thing to understand it all.:nilly:

if you dont think that it is a mbuna then it can't be the kenyii because they are mbuna

That little brown guy is a mbuna of some sort. prolly a cross given your tank situation. All your malawian fish you have there can interbreed if no other options are given them

Nice pics BTW

I have female borleyi and they don't have spots at all. How ever I've seen some versions of E.Blue Ali with that pattern but with out the yellow anal fin.

Question, what did you think you got when you thought it was a he?

"orange crush" which means absolutly nothing. I bought it as a 2" fish like many fish that I buy; not showing their adult color. And the LFS has no other information on it. How nice.

I must reiterate: I know just enough just to be dangerous. I do not know what she is.

So, any of these African cihclids, could be the dead-beat-dad?
