Busy few month for me. Moved house, moved the fish.
Have acquired a handful of new stock after losing the tank of grow outs due to heater failure.

I recently found this guy in a well known store here in the uk.
I’m holding out for another one to turn up shortly.

Around 10” in length, wicked looking catfish this one, been on my wish list for many years. Super happy to finally have one on the collection.

Currently in the pond. Can’t wait to get them back behind glass already. I have a busy year ahead Renovating and building new fish room.

I will try to keep this one updated, as best I can In between everything . As I’m completely unsure on the growth rate.

Quick update.

Just found out it’s a fruit eater. As it’s just swallowed up a fair few chunks of chopped grapes that I feed the disc characines & Brycon. Very greedy fish, appetite like the lithodoras.

Unfortunately I’ve got back home this evening to almost a full fish room wipe out.

Pacu I was growing up have chewed through the heater wire. Tripped the electrics all day whilst I’ve been at work. Even more annoying I agreed to finish the job off today and work late as I’m about to go away for ten days holiday. Maybe if I’d have got back sooner I could have saved a few more.

Got back to the below pictures.
How about that for a kick in the neither regions.

Have about 6 fish that have survived, in including the two pacu. Which are very swiftly going to be finding new homes.

Gutted for you mate, know from experience that feeling as you walk in and know somethings not right straight away.
Yes Dave. It’s been quite the pill to swallow. Very disheartening to say the least. Spoke to a few friends. I was ready to take the last few to a lfs and wrap it all up. But it’s in my blood, I’ll restock and try again. More annoyingly I’d pretty much got the stock I’d wanted. Everything worked well and I’d had some for almost 3 years.
I seem to be having a spate of bad luck these last 18 months.
Power cut took out the big meglodoras & lithodoras.
Heater malfunction wiped the grow out tank out, Killing the pirampus & sa lung fish and now this. It’s all a learning curve.
As I build the new fish room, this set back has atleast give me plenty of time to restock and not rush the build. I’ll be adding a few extras for just incase.

Alarms have been purchased that text my phone when electric goes off.
The room will be heated via an air unit instead of inline or plug in heaters. Which as an added bonus makes it cheaper to run electric wise by a lot. (A lot of the koi chaps are doing it currently )

I’ll be installing a battery system that will keep evening running for around 18 hours after power loss. All very expensive, but what’s needed to make sure this never happens again.

Current stock left now are the following.

Head count in the pond

1 oxydoras
1 petrodoras (Bacu)
4 long nosed doras
1 leporinus
2 wood cats
1 Oscar
2 redtailed Brycon.

I have by chance found a chap rehousing a 2foot L.pictus, so I should be collecting that when I return from my holiday. Atleast that’s a start. Along with a shop stocking some more myleus stiger. It’s the amount of time to find the same fish again. It could take years to rebuild, as not many of them are your average run of the mill fish.
