this is the main reason why I got the fx5 for my 125g...to retire both aquaclears 110/500....
I have had the following setup for over a year
fx5
aquaclear 110/500
fluval U4 (submersible)
powerhead 40-70g with UV steriiler attached.
my O2 is awesome...as I test it every once in awhile....no ammonia, ph right on, nitrate/nitrite, etc problems...
keep in mind, the tank is stocked...if not overstocked. However, I did on 2 occasions take out the aquaclear and the fishies weren't happy....gasping at the top for air.
can never have too much filtration is how I see it. On my 75g I currently have 1 fluval 405. Will either add another 405 or upgrade to a fx5.
main thing with having one filter..the fx5 is that wherever you position the outlet, there's barely enough flow to the opposite side. I have mine in the middle....I like to see the plants sway in the current. So, I put the aquaclear on one corner, and the submersible fluval in the other. I am *just* happy...and the powerhead is near the fx5 outlet too. this tank has sand, and plenty of bottom dwellers to stir up the sand to lift up the poop
my two cents
