1" hose for fx5 to UV

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would love to use some of the FX hose and will probably have extra...thing is it has those rubber ends on each side glued on...the extra hose will not have that. Without that i cant clamp it to a barbed fitting with out it leaking (like the spiral stuff). I plan to hook the stock fx hose to the output of the UV with that rubber end...so i just need to go from the FX to the UV now.

Oh I see, that's a bit tricky. Online will likely be your best bet!

Get some vinyl tubing at home depot, they sell it by the foot and it holds up just fine. Vinyl tubing is what connects my FX5's to hard pipe, so I know it holds up.

Hard piping is always best and pvc is easy to work with but its not necessary.

do you have a home hardware, or TSC near you ? i bought some vinyl mesh lining 1" ID hose 10ft wa slike 20-25 bucks tho defintly isnt cheap stuff lol ... im actually looking for a 6x coralife or bigger for the same as your doing :)

I have had good luck with the 1" black spiral tubing. I use it with the 1" Grey PVC hose barb fittings also available at HomeDepot/Lowes. I have to immerse the hose ends in boiling water for a minute before I can get it over the hose barb fittings but once it is on and I fasten it with a good hose clamp it remains drip/leak free for me.

I like the way the black spiral hose handles so much better than the clear or reinforced vinyl tubing. It doesn't seem to dryout like the translucent vinyl tubing either. The lack of algae buildup in the tubing is also a plus.

Yeah I don't want the lined hose it's too rigid for what I need. I like the spiral stuff too but Fromm experience on my outside tetra pond filter is it drips every now and then. Not sturdy enough for me in the house. Unless it was because its 1.5 or 2" and I used a screwdriver (not a socket) to tighten it.

Anyone ever fooled with the eheim 2262 hose...is it a 1" id?

The Eheim 2262 suction hose is a nominal I.D. of 25mm but 1" is close enough.

Here is a mock up of where I'm at. If I had the UV further away the length of the return would be longer and I think reduce flow more. If I could get the spiral hose clamped down I think it could make that bend. This is just temporary, ill probably drill another hole closer to the UV for the output and maybe a tad higher. That hole is just one that was there from the last setup.
