1 inch Smallmouth bass fry

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I only have floating plants which almost fill the top of the water, which would provide protection. I also have an air stone and cheap brown gravel.

That will maybe keep them alive for the time being but should not be a permanent set up. I would hurry to get a bigger tank with an adequate filter. Even if you move them to a 10 gallon you got about 2 months tops before they need something bigger.

I will post some when I get the 10 gallon going later today. I found a rock in my storage that I bought in years past and it is to big for this 3 gallon tank and it looks awesome for a cave because it has lots of indentations for them to hid in. Should I put that in there and also all the floating plants that are only enough to cover the surface on the 3 gallon tank but not on the 10 gallon tank. Should i stick those in the ground or go to the fish store and get more plants to cover the surface or should i just plant these in the ground? The 10 gallon tank has a filter also so that would be good. Please give me suggestions on exactly what I should buy to provide the best home for these guys. Two of them like to hang out in the floating plants one on the bottom (he doesn't look to good :(, and one like to swim around bellow the plants.

Thanks for the suggestions keep them coming.

I fed them tiny baby worms and two of the love them, they look big for them eating, but the one in the plants won't eat them and the one that is dying is still alive. Does anyone know how to make that one eat and the dying one live?

A bigger tank is a must as smallmouth get to a pretty good size I would say you need a decent size tank, plus you might get aggression as they get larger, when I had smallmouth they were fairly easy to get onto blood worms and brine shrimp, and from there on to pellets. They are a pretty sweet fish who will start to recognize you as the source of food and eventually start to show lots of personality.

Ok in the 10 gallon tank i have two big rocks that I bought at a fish store that look like that have really good indentations for protection. I also stacked two rocks flattish in the middle to make a cave. Do you think I should let the plants float or put them in the ground?
