1 inch Smallmouth bass fry

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
10 gallon tank setup without the plants, will get sand tomorrow

doesnt matter which sand you place in the tank, just make sure you like it lol its hard to replace it (make sure you clean before going into tank). let the tank run and cycle for a bit before you place the fish into it. it needs time to gain benificial bacteria

Ya I did that with the ten gallon tank and some cheap gravel for about 24 hours so now I have to start it over again. Is 24 hours a good enough time? Also to clean it do you just run it over cold water? I just want to make this clear so I don't need a special filter for this, I can just use the sponge filter with an air stone right?

you will have to run the tank for a few days atleast minimum, the bacteria needs to grow so its able to break down the ammonia and nitrite in the tank. cold water is fine for the sand to clean it. you will be fine with just a sponge filter, but as they get bigger you might wanna add another filter to help take extra particles out of the water. bass can be very messy

I would feed the smallmouths live minnows (like a 8th of an inch if you can find them) or give them bloodworms like pyramid_party said and feed the the channal catfish sinking carnivore pellets.

Here is an idea, get rid of the fish and replace them with a gold fish. If you can't afford a proper set up for the fish now, what makes you think you will be able to upgrade in a couple months when they out grow the 10 gallon and again shortly after that? How about when you need a 150+ gallon tank to house them as adults? You are not ready for these fish.
