1 inch thick Styrofoam under tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use the 1/2" or 3/4". I'm guessing that 1" would be fine. I think anything thicker might not compress as good and level out the way you would want it to. IMO

Where can I buy huge styrofoam pieces by the way?

do you have any supports in the middle of that tank???

i did but they would just kick out, and the tank is fine resting on just the 4 blocks. mine is, not to say that others would be... also its on a concreet slab with just pergo ontop...

i had blocks every 4" but none of them would touch the tank... with the tank full to the brim the blocks could all be taken out by hand. a year and a bit later its still standing strong, its just me waterchange tank. i got it for $50 from bigals when they where re-doing there fishroom.

i think you will notice that the foam will not compress much at all... it wont even go down 1/16th with the tank on it...

what im trying to say is that 1/2" is fine and it doesnt really matter.

i just set up a 300 gallon acrylic tank and used 3/4 blue foam from home depot i creeked for the first couple of weeks but no problems now
1'' is overkill but it couldnt hurt the foam should have the same density
now pink verses blue no clue , i would check the density of each and go from there
