  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What species of snakeheads are they mate?? yeah putting it in its own tank is probably best, as they are very aggressive fish in general

any full tank pictures mate??

Welcome to the hobby! Ignore the negative people. No one gets it perfect their first time. The fact that you even found this place shows that you care more than the majority of people. Also, I love the photos. What type of camera is it?

Welcome to MFK

these are some awesome fish that you have here! :D your bichirs should be okay in that tank for a while. just clean the tank frequently. your gar on the other hand looks like its going to be a little hard to care for. i think that the only thing it eats are feeders. if you breed your guppies, you should have your own supply of feeders and not have to waste a lot of money on buying more feeders.

@ Far2: I don't know which kind they are from, the LFS just call it "snakehead from Thai" in general. And yes, Im planning to put it in separate tank.

@ Bass and Cullen: Thanks mates. I dont ignore negative people. They give me a little giggle for being so negative about something this small that don't even relate to their life :)

For now, I am observing the growth rate and the way to treat any kind of sickness (fungus, rot fin etc). Once I gain my confidence, I will upgrade my tank. Thanks very much for your all advice. All have been noted down on the "to do list" ;)

MFK has a reputation for flaming everyone about tank size, and you know what. as another newbie here, Once you get past all the flaming you find that these people only will say these things because they care very much for the fish and their wellbeing. It is wonderful to see someone take an interest in tropical fish and it looks like you have an amazing selectioon available to you there in vietnam. All I can recommend is if you want to keep these fish that you will have to keep them in a larger tank.

Trust me, once you get a big tank you will be lost in the world that is your aquarium. it is amazing to see all the cool fish in one big tank. Don't take too much notice of people just remember that these fish require a lot more space than you currently have, try to see if you can get a deal on a larger tank from someone. you want at least 100gallons, those fish will be able to survive in that size for quite some time until you will have to get them a bigger tank. Another option is a pond, as you are in southeast asia the climate should be fine for keeping fish outside.

Edit - I am not saying he needs a 100g for those fish, I'm saying 100g will be great until he can afford the correct tank size, anything is better than 15g.

I am a lot like you in the fact that I need to upgrade my tanks very soon. However, you do have some very lovely fish. However, am not really a noob except with bichirs. Have had all sorts of fish over the years. Have gotta say I do have some compatibility concerns as well but also do acknowlege that if you are going off of information online, only get it here. I had seen bichirs for the fist time at a walmart and fell in love. I went home and researched it and thought I was prepared before I bought them. Turns out there is a lot of bad information online that just doesnt work. A lot of the articles and online info are just plain wrong. Now I go here and to a lady that works at Cayes because, thus far, these are the only sources that have not steered me wrong. Blue ram cichlids do not grow large enough to be compatible, jack dempsies are just plain mean and do not seem to get that the bichirs will eventually get mad at the constant pestering.......My bichirs killed one.......At first things seemed ok, but it did not last long. Most barb fish should be avoided. I have a large tinfoil barb now that does really well with the bichirs. The first ones I bought did not fare well and had to be taken back before they were killed. Nothing I have read mentioned pack mentality, but mine were hunting the barbs as a pack. I was pretty shocked, they were sorta corralling them and then striking......Never heard of such a thing in anything I read. Was not prepared for it. Now I have an african brownknife, the tinfoil barb, a rainbow cichlid, and two eels in the tank with the bichirs and it is actually more mellow than my community tank........
And as for the rude people posting here : We are all here out of a common love for our fish and our fish keeping. We all log into the forums for the common ground ( I am sure not everyone in our everyday lives understands our passions - at least, not in mine.) and for education that may not be as easy to obtain from other sources. Sometimes we all need the help of more experienced fish keepers. Everyone was a noob at one point and some people are more experienced than others. I bet you all made mistakes when starting out. There is absolutly no reason to be rude to someone new just because they are not doing things the way a more experienced fishkeeper would. Obviously they came here for help and not to be treated badly. So maybe some people need to check their arrogance at the door and try to help others instead.

Congratulation for your dedication, but with the time you should choose a higher aquarium for this species! Your fishes are so amazing! You are in the right way.
