How big was it when you moved it?
That brings up a Q for me. How do you know when a Fish is to big for a tank (I'm not talking about a sarcastic size now)??? I'm just curious cause I have a Spot gar that will get about the same size as an Armatus. The gar is in a min size tank right now(5x2x2) and an Armatus gets about the same as a Spot Gar (2ft), so what is it that makes it a min of 500gls?
Gars probly swim more than Payaras (this is just a Q and not trying to argue anyones info)?

once my armatus hit about 15 inches (when i moved him) he wouldnt stop hitting his nose on the glass. he was almost the width of the tank. he was very uncomfortable. a 2 ft wide tank would last a little longer (mine was 18 in wide)

So it is based on their swimming (I'm guessing)?
Alright, I believe you have Won that argument:D!
I'm going to try with a 150 (this will also determine if I like the fish or not) cause when I get my big tank, I don't want to spend a whole day trying to catch the freaking fish. This way I can try a lil here and there till I find my Ideal set up and tank mates:D

Thanks Trev, you have realy halped my out a lot... hell sometimes its just thinking out loud :)

it was prob only a few more weeks and he would have stopped eating. the prob with armatus is finding suitable tankmates. rays are usually the best way to go. i just threw a 24 inch aro in my tank and the armatus is ticked. no fights yet.......

is the armatus diff from a payara?

yea...
armatus plus silver fish = one hell of a carnage.
sometimes they wont even tolerate non silver fish.
i'd say go with rays or bichirs.
or both.
like vamptrev stated,
they grow much faster than tats and have way more attitude.
they are much harder to get off live than tats.

ur avatar looks like a GATF and a scomb.

armatus is the king of payara!

Yea its a GATF and A payara... wats diff about armatus and mine?

sorry to tell u this but, urs is a what we call a hydrolycus scomberoides. which is known to mysteriously die b4 it hits 12 inches. armatus looks a little diff and hits 3 feet in an aquarium with no problem.

Lets just start with "IMO"...
Scomb are the weakest of all Payara. Die for no reason and max out at around 10" and with no personality (I had one, about the 2nd to worst fish I ever bought)

Tat have nice color and get bigger (like 18" or so) and swim here and there (except mine:irked:. Mine is like a lazy bum ever since I took out my VATF'S)

Armatus is the King of Payara... grow faster, are meaner, have personality, and as the fish gets bigger, their chompers do too (I never owned one, but have read a lot about these crazy SOB's). The Armatus is suppos 1st and 2nd place followed by Tat and in last is the Scom/Rhino... (what ever you pronounce the long looking scomb)
