Depends on the size of the rbps, i have my shoal in a 90 and their a few months from adults, so in 3-4 months ill upgrade to a 6ft footprint for life

I have read people keep noen tetras and other real small dithers with them with no problem and woul help a solo rbp feel more secure. Having a strong current in the tank is also said to make them more active. I have a small shoal only 3 all around seven inches they have been together for years when they feed no matter the amount of food they all fight over the same piece they are definately competitive.

Get a serra. They like being alone. There are serveral varieties that would do well in a 50. A spilo would probably be more entertaining than a solo red.

Gold spilos are pretty common. Ruby reds look alot nicer when they are juvies but will lose the red color as adults. I think you'll find them to be a little less skittish than a solo red. In the end its all up to the individual fish.

When I was a teenager I kept a red belly in a 30 gallon tank. It was a nasty fish, not shy or skittish at all. It had no problem eating anything right in front of you, and I put all types of fish in there with it.
