1" Silver Datnoid - Sudden Death Syndrom!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
AT are brackish. so should be kept in brackish.

thats why u dont see many past 7 - 8 inch in home aquariums, where AT r kept mostly in FW.

I thought they could thrive in full FW too. That's what I read, but I definitely could be wrong.

Not starting a debate , just a thought.

I too have kept silver in fw . Was 8 inch before I sold it sue to aggression.
Just saying cause in fw, they rarely get to full size, or at least I have seen only 1 twelve inch pic. Of at in fw.

Sounds like yours died from parasites.

AT dats shouldn't be kept in freshwater until their about 3-4''!

Very interesting. I'm new to dats so this is all new to me. Thanks guys!

Another one died today.... very odd. I dissected it and found absolutely nothing in its organs or gills. Have no idea what is up... maybe they are just VERY fragile at this size.

Personally I wouldn't buy any dats smaller than 3"

I agree. even with perfect water conditions and environment a number of dats just die. very sad when you do all u can do and they just flop over and croak.

those dang parasites! well you'd have to have a microscope to see some of them.

sorry for the loss of your fish!

I find this thread amusing and depressing at the same time. They don't die for no reason.
If you're keeping AT's or NGT's it's not a bad idea to add a little salt. If you buy multiples it's a good idea to quarentine them seperately for a higher survival rate or buy one at a time. They catch diseases and parasites really easy.
