I sold my brother a tank 11 months ago, a 110L/30G.
I gave him a very small ropefish that i had in the tank and since then he has kept Yellow Lab Malawi cichlids & the small rope+another ropefish he bought.
When i was visiting him today he told me that the ropefish´s are still the same size as they were almost a year ago! He feeds them regular flake food for the cichlids and sometimes shrimps... He sees them eating but nothing happens
The rope is around 4-5" and as thick as a normal electic cord... very skinny....
Could they be starving so much cause of the cichlids but just barely stay alive?
They are active and look healthy.

-You're rope fish died and he (your brother) didn't want to upset you, so he bought new ones which obviously were small.

probably just malnourishment, vary the diet a bit and make sure they eat enough is what you should tell him.

Haha yeah that was funny!!!

Andri - can't explain the ropefish - but I happened to click on your link and you are apparently one AWESOME photographer!!!

My experience with ropefish leads me to believe that they are relatively slow grow-ers. Mine loves daphnia - I buy the Hikari frozen daphnia cubes.

vary the diet... flake food isnt exactly filling or anything

Mine only takes market shrimp and cooked ground beef and is about the size of a power cord maybe a little smaller and 10".

I have the same problem with an albino senegal. Every other poly in the tank has grown and doubled their size but that albino has grown about 1/4 of an inch only :irked:, I think that he will eventually end up as a feeder for the others :WHOA::cry:
