10"+ Convict possible?

I wonder if a breeder could line breed the largest convicts they could find and keep on with the largest of the large fry over and over. Would you be able to increase their size? That would be pretty cool. Can you imagine a 10 or 12 inch Convict?

because the overall genes cons have, it is unlikely the fry would get larger and larger as time rolls over, you may have a big one, who breeds and produces fry, but with those you'll have those destined to be small as well as larger, but anything over 7" for cons would be humongus, though possibly you could be able to make a hybrid, with another larger growing fish, that would look simalar to a con, otherwise imo then no.

Bummer, it seems to work the other way around with a lot of species to create miniature forms. Oh well.

I have seen large convict hybrids but even still they were about 7-8" max. IMO barred midas look a lot like convicts.

thats what i was going to suggest! barred midas do look a lot like cons! and get larger!

lol I guess if I was independently wealthy and had all the time in the world on my hands, it would be a cool experiment. Other than that, yeah the barred Midas is a nice alternative. Had one once but the mean b*stard was needing his own tank due to aggression and I couldn't provide it at the time.

U could do a convictxbarredmidas hybrid and take those offspring and breed them back to the pure convict several times and u would get a bigger meaner mostly covict fish that would be just what u want but like balton said u need the time and tank space in couple years u could have it done.

that probably wouldnt increase the size much though! breeding it some many times with regulars convicts would make it small again! unless you kept doing the same process over and over and over again!
