10 day vacation =(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just feed a little heavier about 2 weeks before you go, switch to normal about a week before, and quit 2-3 days before you leave. Do a huge (50-75%) the day before; they will be fine. I have seen healthy fish last 14+ days with no ill effects at all.

P.S. Cheer up, Texas ain't so bad. Most of us don't even ride horses anymore!

leaving relatives or friends in charged has killed more fish that not feeding them ever would

idk where it got started that fish need food every day... they don't. they will be fine for 10 days. ive gone at least that long before without feeding... on purpose.

many people know that they don't need to feed their counterpart's everyday unless their trying to power-feed them or they are just plain :screwy: lol:ROFL: but yea my fishes can go for over a week without food but with my growing cichlids nuh uh....they go aggro towards my other fishes in my tank  :irked: but yea also my catfishes get pretty hungry when no food is available when not around

i put in wild caught tuffies who get quarantined for like 2 weeks or more
and then they go with my cats
this can be done even with Ps as they start eating each other when too hungry
the lfs owner who is my friend always does this, the tuffies are quite fast even for the Ps
and one more thing don't fast your fish for 10 days out of the blue, there will too much aggression in your tank, and if there are any fish which aren't aggro as the others they will surely perish under the onslaught

If your tank is big and it has very good filtration, make a water change the day before you leave (50%). The day you leave put in alot of feeders and they will have food for the next few days :)

Also try feeding them more often at least a week before leaving.

I have done this a few times and it has worked great.

Another thing you could do is leave the amount of food you normally give them in separate bags and a relative of yours can feed them once or the number of times a day that you normally give them food. I normally use this method.

Good luck.

i always catch them from the river nearby
but i live in india
they look just like the rosy barbs but are silver in color
they are the most abundantly available fish here

Some people will feed them more anyways. My suggestion is, power feed till the day before you leave, do a regular water change the night before. I did that with my tanks and all was fine when I came back (5 fresh, 2 salt). When you return, do another water change and resume feeding as normal. It should be ok.

Or u could lock up all your other food and portion it out as stated above. That works too. I usually dump in a bunch of feeders the night before I leave for my ck's. That's always worked too.

I work at a college and we close for 2 weeks at the end of each year.

When I had my bichir here, I'd toss in a couple dozen ghost shrimp and let him go for it. When I returned, there were 3 or 4 shrimp left and the black skirt tetras that were in the tank were hungry (I fed heavily right before locking up and leaving) but all there.

Edgar jumped last year, so over the break this past December I just had the BSTs... again, fed heavily right before leaving, and they were waiting when I came back.
