ok, I have 3 dovii 2m and f,2 managuense, grammodes, 3 red devils ,3 festae, 1 buttii, 1 trimac, 1 umbie, 1 tiger mort in a 125 all 6 to 10 inches. that I grew out from 1.5 " with mad site breakers and almost no aggresion. It can be done.

Anyone can growout juvies for a while together. None of those fish are mature yet. That combo has zero chance of working without a enormous tank. A successful combination is not one that works for a little bit or when fish are young. COme back in 2 years and tell everyone how many of those fish you still have and how many of them are still living together.

It's not that it is frowned upon either. People are free to keep whatever fish they like however they like. It is just that people with experience with these big aggressive cichlids know that it doesn't work. They don't recommend not doing it for no reason.

Those are very nice looking Dovii, good luck with them!!!!!

I agree 100% with this statement. I would not suggest anyone try this with out other larger tanks on hand. ;)

wow congrats on the beautiful fish

Thank you.

I am not going to lie I hope to mix all of my breeds together but I am no fool. I have lost many cichlids trying to get to this point. Not to mention I usually grow all of my Cichlids out.

I got good advice when I started keeping Cichla and I use this advice still. I have purchased 2 40g breeders, and 235g tank just because I picked up these Dovii, some Calico Marbled Cons, Oscar, and a Black Nasty pair. All together 11 free cichlids. Oh yea and a Black Ghost Knife in with my medium size Cichla Kelberi in a 100g.

So as I was told be prepaired and keep more large tanks on hand just in case. I have a 12'' Vieja who is seperated in a hospital tank (10G) right now do to aggression from my Red Devil. But the key is I have tanks waiting to be set up if one of them is not playing nice in the community.

Been pretty easy going in the tank thus far. I was really shocked with two different female and male Dovii in the same tank. To be truthfull he has already taken over but he is no more aggressive then the others. All is well my only real problem with this tank will be and always has been the female Red Devil but even she hasn't killed anyone so it's going good really good! ;)
