10 foot stocking???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sounds like a good idea.
At the moment i have a male 5"midas, 2"texas, and two 5"oscars.
One of my oscars is the dominant fish although i know midas dont get nasty till larger, they are all in a 4 foot tank.
Im getting the other tank in less than a month but i was concidering building a 8x4 as the ply i can get cheao at 1" thick.

Yeh man i cant wait to get the tank, then ill post loads of pics :headbang2
What do people think about Green Terrors, and Festae? Also my lfs has two male dovii that are quite big (13") each and they are both in a 5x2x2 with lots of other fish (the tank my midas was in) im good friends with him and he has had more trouble with the festae, he had to put them in the sump because they were causing aggro. I DONT WANT THE DOVII.
i just thaught i would get that in before i got flamed lol.
Also is it definately a no-go with the umbee? possibaly a female would work? I just want to know my options.
Thanks for all the help guys.

idk my FH isnt mean yet...... she is with some other SA cichlids in a 50G Grow out
4" maby??

I was wondering about other tankmates, like motoro rays, i really want a couple i also would like am arowana of some discription. Has anybody tried these combinations?
if i do get either of these exta tankmats i would change the dimentions of the tank to 8x4, with rockwork hopefully to divert the gaze of the cichlids!

i would ask in the ray section (or do a search i think there are some past threads about keeping rays with cichlids) from what i heard a lot of cichlids arent good with rays because they pick at them put i would think as long as your cichlids are pretty laid back and just defend their territories with out picking at their tankmates then some rays and an arrowana would be cool additions, iv always wanted to keep rays just never had a big enough tank, they really give that extra WOW COOL factor when people come over and see your tank

Well im definately getting the rays, im going with a trio of motoros as they are large and hardy (for a fw ray). 1 Male 2 Female
I would like an arowana i just dont know wich would be best.
Silver Arowana: These seem like a great choice but they are very placid and i think the cichlids would get the better of it.
Jardini Arowana: This aro is very aggressive wich is great for keeping up with the cichlids but i am very concerned about it and the rays.
Green Arowana: these seem to be a great choice, a very strong fish but not overly aggressive but they are a little expensive, a little to expensive to get beaten the crap out of by cichlids i think.
So guys please give me your opinions on this.
Oh and by the way, i am changing the tank to 8 foot by 4 foot to accomadate the new tankmates.

ok yeah that will be cool and just so you know last i knew green aros were illegal in the states, but i think a silver should be fine, it shouldnt mess with anyone else and i wouldnt really think the cichlids would bother him because they pretty much stick to the top of the tank so wouldnt be competing with the cichlids for territories and it would be so much bigger than them they would most likely just let it be

Lol i always get told that but i live in england, newhaven is in the south east lol.
And Asain Arowanas are legal here.
I think ill buy a silver at around 12" also i got a male festae today, hes really colourfull. On entering the tank he was quikly beaten the crap out of by my Midas (Rex) and hes settled in now.
