what kind of africans can i have in a 10 gallon till i get a 55 in december? it might be longer might not be december. so what can i have and how many? also wht rock works good in the tank? Also they need salt right?

nope no salt.you might like to put a tespoon in a small tuawat container then burry it in gravel.it helps out ick and boosts their colors, also for a 10 go with a male a female con,you can breed em and sell the fry to a lfs and help you get that 55 gallon faster

mabe like 2 demasoni cichlids and maybe like 1 blue johanne but even at that its really pushing what you can do i got some boliven rams in my ten but nothing else and you need some hiding spots for them texas holley rock raises the ph and africans love the high ph level and you can use a little salt but texas holley rock is the best because it provides plenty of hidding spots ans they can claim territory for themselves

Both demosoni and johannii get too big for a 10 gallon. Do not try to keep any malawis in a 10 gallon.

Try some tanganyikan shell dwellers, like brevis, ocellatus, or multifasciatus.

Take a look at the articles here:

If you want any africans they only one that I would suggest would be a demasoni, and only one. They stay small, one of the smaller Mbuna, the males get about 4in and females smaller. That is what I would suggest. Any more than one and they will kill each other in that small of a tank.

You will have so many more options though when you get that 55. Until now, only one would work the 10.

i still think shell dwellers would be the best choice for a 10 gallon tank.

Yeah shell dwellers would be a good choice, but he plans on upgradeing to a 55gl. I find that shelldwellers are more interesting when kept in a smaller tank. Plus if he moved them to a 55 there wouldn't be much other he could add besides other sp. of shelldwellers and cypricrhomis.

So IMO I would suggest 1 mbuna for the 10 till he gets the 55 then maybe go with shelldwellers in the 10 after he has the 55. If he is saveing for it, the sell dwellers will be a bit pricey for the nicer ones, and then there goes the money for the 55.

Just my 2 cents.
