10 gallon african?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
any rock works good. I went to my local quary and got some rocks there. make holes that the fish can swim through cause they love that. No Salt! If you are going to add salt no more than 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons and that is only to help cure diseases such as fin rot and ich. As for the type of fish I suggest the smaller species such as electric yellows. Maybe 5 of them. In the future when you get your 55 I think you could have about 10-20 africans in there. africans are best kept in larger groups because they can be an aggressive fish when breeding so the more fish you have the less likely one fish is gonig to be singled out. The right number of fish is when there is still plenty of movement (fish not running into each other) but you still have limited aggression showing in your tank. Good Luck and hope you get your 55 real soon ;)

Brichardi:) I have to breeding Brichardi in a ten. They came with it and were full grown and breeding in this tank when i got them:) And you can upgrade them to a 55 and have a whole lot more in a month when the reproduce :) Just like Cons....

If youre really not sure when your getting the 55g go for the shellies really nice fish. You can always get another 10g at walmart for 9.95 to grow out fry in if you get the 55 and fish breed

I think a pair of Neolamprologus brichardi, pulcher, helianthus, gracilis or marunguensis would fit well in a 10 up until they reach about 3".
You could buy a group, let a pair or trio form and sell off the rest. They'll start breeding at about 2". After they get to 3" they should be moved to a tank of at least 20 gallons as a permanent home. I like using 29 gallon tanks since they long as wlel as tall and I can stack rockwork as high as I like.

I would like to suggest you rather wait till you purchase your 55. A 10 gal is ideal for raising fry or as a hospital for sick fish.
Rather wait till you can afford the bigger tank. If you are looking at Malawi mbuna then I would suggest you look at putting in around 20-30 fish into the 55. This together with some good rock formation will help reduce the aggressiveness of these fish.
I run 25-35 fish in a standard 3ft. Look at the pic I have as my avatar. Plenty of rocks for hiding places.:cool-1: :naughty:  :clap  :headbang2

I think a pair of Neolamprologus brichardiQUOTE]

Yup these ones :) IT takes a long time for them to hit 3".. You should have ample time to get a 55:) If you get a pair of these :)
