I setup my first real planted tank and I have some questions on stocking.
Can 5 Neon Tetras, 5 Glowlights, 1 dwarf gourami, and a Bulldog pleco do fine in a 10 gallon planted? It's mostly for my mom and she wants color and activity. If you have better suggestions feel free to post them.

Yeah why not, why don't you do some bloodfin tetras instead of the glow light, way more active and very pretty IMO. I don't think that would overload the system and with so much plants nitrates and water quality should be very good.

I would probably skip the pleco and go with something like Ottos... they are far smaller and produce less waste.. you could possibly consider some shrimp in there as well? although not sure if you current fish selection may eat them?

I don't think there are any bloodfins in my area, Would serpae tetras do fine? If I find some ottos I will use them. How many would you suggest I add? Ill add some ghost shrimp too.
Could this work?
5 X Neons
5 X serpaes
1 X dwarf G
(?) X Ottos
4 - 6 ghost shrimp.
Of that stock, in what order should I add them?
Sorry for all the questions, I don't have much experience with these types of fish. lol

I've got a 10 gallon planted tank for my son. My stock consists of the following,

12 Neon tetras
3 Swamp darters
5-8 Ghost shrimp
3 Apple snails
1 Crayfish(soon to be removed although he has not killed or eaten anything yet)

Now I realize that the shrimp may become food for the darters or the cray, but in my opinion its important for my son to understand how things work in nature and he is well aware that some of the fish/shrimp may become dinner. I just took some pictures of the tank yesterday but have yet to upload them. I'll get them uploaded and I'll post a picture for you. Good luck with your planted tank!

I look forward to the picture :)

Anyone?

And I noticed there is some snail eggs on some of the plants and some other egg cases but I don't know what they are. Would an otto eat the eggs and snails?

I have those little snails that lay eggs on everything too. Something in the tank is eating them so they haven't gotten out of control. Here are some pictures as I promised! I forgot to add that I've got some corys and a couple "feeder" fish in the tank too.

Enjoy!

Otto's are great for that. Def no pleco, I would skip the dwarf gourami but look into a pair of rams. I had a little Fluval Edge planted with neons, cory's and ottos.

I thought about doing a pair of rams. Would they be aggressive to the other fish while breeding? Do they dig? The substrate is sand and the plants being used used to be free floating so there is no roots yet. What should be the first fish I add as this is a newly established tank?

I dont think I will do Rams. If I do rams I want to do it in at least a 20 gallon.
Any other suggestions? Answers to my previous questions?
